Property Summary (EN009)

Relax while the kids have fun at our farm and holiday accommodation (three well-screened lodges and a cottage). You get the run of our 21 acres managed exclusively for wildlife. There are free bikes to borrow, a pond to fish, hens (and sometimes cows) to visit, a BBQ, and a mown badminton / volley ball court. And we’re always delighted if we can give you a tour of our nationally-recognised nature reserve.

Kids of all ages are especially welcome. Little ones can play on the swings and slide, older children often like to explore, make dens and watch wildlife. We are off the road at the end of a long, quiet drive (good for bikes) with no public paths crossing the land. Some parents even bring walkie talkies, giving older kids more freedom to roam while still staying in touch.

And your holiday at the eco friendly holiday lodges will be genuinely sustainable. We have gold approval from both the Green Tourism Business Scheme and the Devon Wildlife Trust. In 2010 we won a silver award for sustainable tourism in the Visit Devon Tourism Awards. But you don't need to be super-green to stay here - it's for everyone. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too.

Of course, you won't be spending all your holiday at the lodges and cottage. And as well as lovely walks there are plenty of great attractions nearby. Some of the most popular with families are horse riding at nearby Bold Try stables (4 miles from the accommodation), cycling the Tarka Trail (a good joining point is Torrington, about 14 miles from the cottage and lodges) and RHS Rosemoor (about 11 miles from the farm). Slightly further afield you'll find Finch Foundry (13 miles) Lydford Gorge (about 21 miles from the accommodation), the Big Sheep a family theme-park type attraction, (also about 21 miles from the lodges) and many others.

The self catering holiday accommodation available is as follows:

Great place to stay especially if you want to get away from it all. The place was perfect, we did not want to return. So much to do and everyone was so kind and helpful. we stayed for 1 week but longer would be better. We are a family with 3 children, aged 13,11 and 8yrs. the children reaally benefited from the freedon to roam freely and explore on the farm. Thanks to Ian and Maggie who opened up their farm to visitors and made us feel very welcome. Rating 5 out of 5, Rebecca, Apr 2011.

We had a great time, 6 girlies on a break from husbands and kids. Took the dogs and walked and laughed and ate, was fab. The scenery was unbelievable, owls hooting at night and lovely clear skys when we were there. Thanks. Rating 5 out of 5, Shelley, stayed Sep 2010.

These eco lodges were very comfortable and set in a beautiful, secluded location. We enjoyed free range of the farm and made the most of it. The boys (3 and 1) loved the tree house, the swings, the toy tractors, the sheep, cows, horses and chickens - fresh eggs. Mutley was a star too. We were made very welcome by Ian and his family who were always ready to chat and make suggestions as well as showing us around the nature reserve. Winkleigh made a good base for days out to the beach and local attractions. We ended up spending several days on the farm because it was so lovely. Rating 4 out of 5, "srs03", stayed Jun 2010.

We stayed for a new year break and the farm is beautifully set and a great summer holiday destination. A bit off the beaten track and I would recommend going when the weather is good enough to take advantage of the walking routes and using bikes. When we stayed it was very snowy, but it was picture postcard perfect and we had a great time. Maggie and Ian are very nice and really clever and passionate about conservation and I learnt a lot from the tour of their nature reserve. The huts are a bit cold in winter, but the heaters are really good and we really enjoyed just wrapping up warm and watching the snow fall. The home made scones delivered to the door were a lovely touch and the farm shop up the road is very good. Rating 4 out of 5, "strawberrycake28", stayed Jan 2010.

Holiday Reviews from the Owners’ site

Heather McAdam and family, August 2010. We really loved it here - had a very relaxing time. Maggie and Ian made us feel very welcome. We loved all the birds, watching the stars, milky way + comets at night. Kids had loads of freedom and we had time to relax. It is great having such a space devoted to wildlife.

Peter and Susanna Robinson August 2010 Firstly, thanks for your hospitality and lovely scones and flowers! Brilliant accommodation and areas for our children to explore, run around on and use their imagination. They loved to walk, fish and play in the trees. The lodge was spacious, warm and comfortable. Will be coming back and recommending you!

We loved it. Ian's guided tour was fascinating. Accom was perfect, the farm is beautiful. We really appreciated the informality - eg borrowing bikes. You've thought a lot about the important little things. Great scones too! Tavner family.

Lovely to have option of free bikes and boots. Mace family.

We have had a fantastic holiday, thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us. It has been great to stay somewhere so environmentally aware and where care for the environment is central. Maggie's tour of the SSSI was marvellous and our nearly 4 year old now wants to know everything about everything that lives there. Thank you for letting us feed the chickens, collect eggs - and eat them! Stephens family

A fabulous lodge - very high standard and will gladly recommend it. some really nice touches have made this holiday memorable - scones, borrow a bike, fishing pond (and rod!) and space for children and dog to roam. Thanks very much. Broomfield family.
