RECOMMENDED FAMILY HOLIDAYS IN FRANCE - cottages, gites, villa, chalet

Family holidays in France are a favourite with us and we visit every year. France is a beautiful country that is close to home and easy to get to - we normally drive and make good use of Tesco Clubcard vouchers in paying for the Eurotunnel crossing in full! The beauty of France for your family friendly holiday in the summer is that it is warm, the food and wine are great and families are always welcome almost wherever you go making it a highly recommended destination for a family holiday. But if it is the excitement of the mountains in winter, then a family skiing holiday in France is certainly recommended - we are heading in that direction next year with our kids for the first time.

Brittany and Normandy self catering holiday cottages or gites are always very popular with families as it is not too far to travel but the motorway network in France is fabulous and you can drive around anywhere very quickly - it is even easy to get an automated toll payment on the internet so you don't need to queue. Travelling further down the Western side of France, there are the Loire and Vendee regions plus Poitou Charentes - great areas for families and attractions such as Puy du Fou and Futuroscope are always popular. Further south the Dordogne and south west France is stunning with lovely weather. Getting there i also easy by air and flights using RyanAir and EasyJet provide good value for money to this area of France.

If you are looking for an active family holiday in France then of course the chalets in the French Alps springs to mind with skiing in the winter and mountain sport activities in the summer. Midi-Pyrenees, Limousin and the Auvergne are lesser known areas of France that provide great activity holidays for those slightly older families.

The South of France is traditionally full of great family holiday villas with stunning views across the sea, coast and beaches - technically known as the Provence-Alpes-Cote D'Azur region of France. However if you are looking for better value for money in the South of France then I would suggest the Languedoc further around the coast.

Northern France is popular for large group family holidays as it is so close to home, whereas the wine regions of Champagne and Burgundy are great to combine a family holiday to Eurodisney (Disneyland Paris) and for lesser known wines the Eastern area of France - Alsace, Loraine and Franche Comte are also interesting.
