Self Catering Farmhouse Gite, Aizenay, Vendee Region of the Loire Atlantique

Property Summary (FR067)

A south-facing renovated farmhouse gite set in idyllic countryside, situated between the towns of Aizenay and Le Poire Sur Vie in the heart of the very popular Vendee holiday region. On the edge of a hamlet of 15 houses, 25 minutes from the long sandy west coast beaches and the fishing port of St Gilles Croix de Vie. The area is very rural with lots of well signed walk and cycle ways including the old railway line and Aizenay forest. The splendid beaches of Jaumay, les dunes and Bretignolles are only 25 minutes away. St Gilles offers an abundance of restaurants to suit all tastes.

The house has 4 bedrooms - 1 king en suite, 1 double, 1 twin and 1 single with put up bed or cot. There is also a bathroom and a shower room upstairs, plus an extra bathroom and separate WC downstairs. Large lounge dining room with tiled floor and wood burning stove. Well equipped kitchen with fridge eye-level oven, halogen hob and dishwasher. Washing machine and freezer in the old wine cellar adjacent. Back kitchen and entrance hall with large fridge and stone sink. Separate reception room with T.V. (French) and video, various games books and videos. Outside there is a 6.5m x 4.5m half sunken pool with stunning views across the countryside.

Outside, The garden extends to 2 acres part of which is a field on the north side and there is a plunge pool to keep you cool. The south facing front garden is enclosed, with large terrace and boules area, wooden garden furniture, comfy chairs and BBQ. The large barn has floodlit table tennis and there are 7 bikes of various sizes to use. This winter (2010) the plunge pool is being upgraded to a wooden sided, half sunken pool (6.5m x 4.5m) so that you can sit on the sides and dangle your toes in and there is  plenty of room for the children and the occassional adult.  We are putting it just beside the terraced veranda, so it is all fenced off but close to a seating area.

We all had a wonderful week in your lovely farmhouse.  La Blanchere provided everything we needed for a relaxing week in rural surroundings.  The Farmhouse is equipped with everything we needed and more. Initially the weather wasn't up to our expectations, but that did not effect us as there were so many other things to do without leaving La Blanchere - table tennis, the pool, la baule, table football, cards, cricket and when the sun did arrive there was plenty of outdoor seating and sun beds. Rating 4.5 out of 5, Margaret, Aug 2011.

We have just returned from a "wet week" in the Loire at this lovely farmhouse - thank goodness for the cosy wood burner to come into at the end of a day! We really enjoyed our holiday visiting the nearby beach, waterparks and the exceptional Puy du Fou - highly recommended and just 45 mins down the road. The farmhouse is really "homely" rather than clinical "luxury" as you would find in some places. We had 2 families sharing and was such excellent value for money that anything "minor" is immediately forgotten. I think the pool is fine, particularly if the weather had been good - we would have spent most days at the beach so would happily have hit the pool when we got back. The games room is fabulous and once we discovered the field on the other side of the house, there was loads of places to play and hide for the kids. All in all, exceptionally good value for money. Thought location was great, facilities good, accommodation good and very pretty and had the weather been with us I’m sure even better.  The boys commented that they didn’t like the above ground pool, for it’s coldness and they like to do races which the pool would of prevented, so as a dip pool I am sure adequate. We particularly enjoyed the cosy log burner and great array of dvd/video’s for chilly evenings couldn’t fault the gite for equipment and helpfulness of the owner.  My only complaint would be – that of the maid situation. Who asked us to unload the dishwasher and put clean contents away, empty the fridge of all contents and leave as found, this in addition to requests such as bedding to be stripped (which I automatically do, some may not wish to) but to be told where to leave exactly a bit …..  Whilst minor – just memorable and felt a little rude…  really enjoyed our time with you guys – it’s nice to have company and there is still lots to discover there – I would defo reco to a friend so a 4/5 (the loss of point purely on the maid, she would best be defo not seen by departing clients). Rating 4 out of 5, Andrea & Alistair, Jul 2011. Owners note: I will certainly ensure that I talk to the maid as I agree that this cannot happen, thank you for letting me know.

We really enjoyed our break in this house.Ideal location for walking, cycling and visiting the coast. Accomodation was spacious, clean, and had a good south facing aspect. We are looking to book again next year. Rating 5 out of 5, Stewart, May 2011

A genuine home-from-home. La Blanchere has all those things that make a self-catering holiday a proper relaxing break, from a brilliantly equipped kitchen to a games room with something to keep everyone in the family amused. It's in a fabulously rural part of "real France" and has all you need to make the most of the location, including a range of bicycles and the maps and information to assist the explorer who wants to stay near to home or range further afield. When we were there a hare could be spotted in the lane outside every morning. Magical. Rating 5 out of 5, Philip, Oct 2010.

2010 was our second visit to La Blanchere. We would not hesitate to recommend it. The area is peaceful, yet only minutes away from the nearest town. We enjoyed spending time at the gite as well as exploring the immediate area on foot and on the bikes provided. Our children spent many an hour in the pool while we relaxed. We all enjoyed the games barn and looked forward to playing table tennis in the evening. Felicity was a excellent host who took the trouble to phone during our holiday. And the bottle of wine was very much appreciated! Rating 5 out of 5, Nina, Sep 2010.

We stayed here last year and very much hope to go back again. It has a lovely, homely feel about it, loads of space and is fantastically well equipped with everything you need. You can tell how much the owners care about the house and they are extremely friendly and helpful. Barbeques on the terrace and ping pong in the games room were particular highlights for us. The location is great too with lovely beaches a short drive away. When we visited last year with a group of friends, two of us were expecting and we are looking forward to going back with the latest additions, for which La Blanchere will be ideal. Rating 5 out of 5, Sarah, Aug 2010.

We stayed at La Blanchere with our 2 daughters, their partners & 2 grandchildren. the farmhouse was big enough to accommodate us all & if you needed to escape each other there was room for that as well. it was well situated, with about 1/2 hr drive to coast. If we were going on another family holiday to the area we would not hesitate to book this property. we needed to contact the owners & they were more than helpful & even rang us at the house to check everything was ok. That's what we call good service. Rating 4 out of 5. Lyn & David, June 2010.
