Holiday Cottage Accommodation Summary (FR056)

Cottages in Brittany are four self catering cottages situated at La Basse Rouërie in Mellé. They have been restored sympathetically to provide modern conveniences whilst retaining all the charm of a typical French farmhouse. Leaving in lots of the original features, like granite walls and exposed oak beams. They are set in 2 acres of secure gardens with views over undulating farmland. This is the perfect place for all the family to enjoy; children can play in the heated pool or in the safe gardens, while the parents relax with a good book or do some sunbathing. Why not book more than one cottage and have that family reunion for a birthday or anniversary, we can cater for group bookings of up to 26 people.

The cottages are in an idyllic location, rural but near to the local village, major towns, Mont Saint Michel (the 2nd most visited place in France), sandy beaches, water and floral parks. It is a great area for cycling and walking and bikes can be hired locally and delivered to your door. We are only a few minutes from the pretty village of Mellé which has a bar-restaurant-store and only 5 minutes from Louvigne du Desert with its shops, supermarkets and restaurants. In fact there is something for all the family in this beautiful part of Brittany.
Our cottages in Brittany are set in two and a half acres of gardens with open views over undulating farmland. The communal patio area has a brick BBQ, the ideal place for parents to get to know one another, while the kids play. We have had many an enjoyable evening with a BBQ and a few drinks. The heated above ground pool is made of teak to fit in with the surroundings in the orchard. The pool is open from May - September.
The gardens are the ideal place to either relax by the pool, have a picnic under a tree, or just sit and read a good book while sipping a glass a wine. There is a wooden Wendy house all kitted out, a 14ft trampoline with safety nets, badminton, swings and boules pit in the gardens, along with numerous games. In the covered veranda area there is table tennis, table soccer and a darts board, plus lots of play equipment for toddlers. The gardens are large and safe enough for children to play. Just down the lane there is an 18 km Patrimoine walk through lovely countryside. There are cots, high chairs, booster chairs and baby swimmers available at no extra charge.

Very helpful having English owners on site who were very passionate about their work, property and area etc. The gites were very well equipped, clean and nicely furnished in traditional French/country style. The area and outlook was very pleasant and the garden equipped with pool, trampoline and playhouse etc was a bonus for our nearly 2 year old. Rating 4 out of 5, Terry & Christine, Aug 2011.

This property has everything in it for a family to enjoy their holiday . Plenty of car parking space , safe area for the kids to play i.e. not anywhere near a main road . Swimming pool , 3 x bar - b - que areas , trampoline , large grass area to play . The bedrooms are clean and modern and roomy , bathroom is big enough , kitchen area has everything in it and the front room has a big log fire which comes in handy in September/October . Sandy and Barrie are very helpful and kind people and are there if you get a problem. Rating 5 out of 5, Frank, Oct 2010.
It was clean, the owners were very friendly and welcoming and there were plenty of toys and games for children. Rating 5 out of 5, Sarah, Oct 2010.

Barrie and Sandy are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much trouble. The children had extensive facilities available to them and the gite was so well equipped it was a joy to stay in. The location was very special and provided a wonderful atmosphere for the entire holiday. You'll not miss your own home and you'll be sorry to leave! Rating 5 out of 5, Karen & Keith, Oct 2010.
Well maintained gite with good facilities in a quiet and peaceful rural location. Lovely garden with lots of entertainment for children: trampoline, swimming pool, games room. Easy access to nearby towns and attractions such as the aquarium at St Malo. Rating 4 out of 5, Peter & Laura, Sept 2010.
Lovely and helpful owners, all what you need in a house to spend two weeks with three children – pool, trampoline, ping-pong, washing machine, dishwasher, DVD player, etc. lovely and very big garden with playground, space where to barbecue. We had excellent time! Rating 5 out of 5, Jana, Aug 2010.
Excellent accommodation and facilities. Peaceful and family friendly. Rating 4.5 out of 5, Ian, Aug 2010.
You will really find rest and peace at La Basse Rouerie but still have the possibility to visit nice places in the area like Mont St. Michel, Fougere, Vitre, St. Malo etc. Our children loved the space around the house with a large swimming pool and a trampoline. It's save for them to walk around without supervision. We would definitely come back if we want to visit Brittany again. Rating 5 out of 5, Wilfried, Aug 2010.
A little late but thought we must write to say what a wonderful time we had at Pear Tree cottage with son Stuart, Zoe, their little Emily, daughter Joanne and Ian. A couple of weeks ago now, but the memory will be with us always, for such a super holiday. As you know we saw quite a lot, but with lots left to explore. It was so peaceful, can't remember a holiday when only one aircraft was heard. It's obviously under nobody's flight path. Many seriously expensive holidays can't give one real peace and silence away from aircraft noise! Rating 5 out of 5, Mike & Jennie, June 2010.
Sandy and Barrie are really friendly and welcoming. The Gites are lovely and the grounds are perfect for children with lots of things to do, but in such a safe environment. In the surrounding area there are a number of places to go for days out within a reasonable distance. Sandy and Barrie couldn't be more helpful with recommendations for eating out, visitor attractions, directions etc. All in all a great family holiday. Rating 4.5 out of 5, Sam, May 2010.
The property has plenty of space for kids to play , a pool , you can borrow toys as well . Sandy and Barrie are really friendly and give you lots of help when you're there - places to go and where to shop and generally where everything is . There is a list of destinations in the Gites with distances and a map . Plenty of parking space , two separate BBQs outside .There are 4 lots of seating for eating outside . The Gites are clean and roomy with everything you need in the kitchen + a bottle of wine when you get there . They can arrange a cheap ferry crossing if you require one . The place is really quiet , which is good and it's a good distance from a road - so no danger for the kids if you happen to take your eye off them for a minute . The location is not far from the A84 which is one of the main motorways running down France which means an easy drive from the ferry port . Rating 5 out of 5, Mr Patient, Mar 2010.

My husband and I have been going to these cottages for the last 4 years or more and will again soon.  It is friendly, welcoming and by far the loveliest place ever.  Whether you stay in or go out it is always a memorable time.  There is something for everyone, whether you are 2yrs - 80 yrs old, life is bliss. Barrie & Sandy are wonderful, they make you feel like you never want to go home again. I cry every time I leave. Rating 5 out of 5, Sharon, Mar 2010.

Barrie & Sandy are so warm and welcoming they make you feel like a part of the family. The accommodation is superb, clean, comfortable, cosy and very relaxing. After staying in many different cottages I would definitely give this a 5 out of 5, Adele, Mar 2010.
Lovely, tranquil location, with great facilities for kids. Barrie & Sandy were also excellent and went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable! We were fortunate with the weather, which was gorgeous and meant we could enjoy barbeques by the pool and play in the garden with the kids. Rating is 4.5 out of 5 - very good quality accommodation! Darren & Sarah, Dec 2009
This property is spacious, comfortable, homely with plenty of outside space for children to run around. It also had a pool, which our children used daily. Rating is 4 out of 5. Angela & Carlos, Sept 2009.
