Maison Maitre has 4 huge bedrooms and sleeps up to 11 people comfortably (but can sleep 15 if required). This beautiful house is set in over 2 acres and is approached by a private driveway through the mature park of fruit and other deciduous and evergreen trees. It is found on the edge of the village of Perignac in the midst of Charentais vineyards and farm land. The 32 x 12 foot swimming pool will be completed by the Spring 2011.The current house dates back to the 18th century but the property was originally developed much earlier and until only a few years ago, cognac was still distilled on the premises.
Maison Maitre is faced in traditional cut stone and is entered through large oak double doors. The entrance is fronted by a long wide balustraded terrace from which to take in the vista of the park. Leading off the hall is the main reception room on one side with TV & DVD player and the third of the four bedrooms on the other. The Salon has two large sofas and a divan that converts into a double bed. This bedroom has two sets of bunk beds, a single bed so can sleep up to 5 people/children.
Up the spiral staircase is a wide landing and corridor that runs the length of the house and which leads onto two further large double bedrooms and the large family bathroom.The master bedroom has a four poster double bed and a small sofa that converts to a second double bed. The second bedroom has a traditional French bedroom suite with double bed. This room also has a small sofa that converts to a spare double bed. The fourth bedroom downstairs has twin beds that can be used separately or combined as a double bed.
Downstairs to the rear of the house, a large kitchen-diner in the Longere is approached by a small set of back stairs. The kitchen is fitted with a cooker, dishwasher, large refrigerator and second fridge-freezer. In the rear hall there is a washing machine for holiday laundry. WiFi is also available in the kitchen. The rear hall also contains a separate toilet and washbasin and gives access to the purpose built shower room and fourth bedroom.
At the front, the terrace facing the park is an area suitable for al-fresco dining, recreation or just sitting and enjoying the peaceful setting. There is also a barbeque area available in the courtyard that can be accessed from the terrace or the rear door.
Outside there is boules, table tennis and badminton plus plenty of space for the children to play hide and seek.
The village of Perignac lies one kilometre to the east. It has an excellent restaurant (La Gourmandiere), restaurant bar (L'Orchidee) and Pizza take away, village store, and boulangerie for fresh daily bread all within walking/cycling distance. Every Sunday morning, a stall sells fresh oysters in the square outside the village church and on Tuesdays there is a full fish stall in the same square.
Only 8 kilometers away is the town of Pons which has all the local shops visitors are likely to need and one of the best restaurants in the area in the Hotel Bordeaux. The town of Cognac is a 20 minute drive by car and Bordeaux, Saintes, Royan and the Atlantic coast can all be reached in under 1 hour.
