This holiday accommodation is an 18th Century Charentaise Farmhouse and 3 Cottages, situated in a small hamlet with outstanding views, 5 km from the market town of Chef Boutonne in the Deux Sevres region of France. The cottages share a swimming pool and boules pitch in 3 acres of enclosed garden/grounds.
The gites are owned by a couple, with a child, who know the importance of creating a holiday environment that maximises the enjoyment of both adults and children. To call the garden and grounds an adventure playground is perhaps an over-statement, but there is much to stimulate and provide hours of pleasure for all. This allows everyone to relax on the terrace or poolside, knowing that they don't have to continually think of what next to do with the children. There is much of interest in the area and those without the constraints of school timetables can enjoy the location with all its peace and tranquillity.
In the garden is a football pitch with goal posts, swings, slide and children's cabin. A sunken trampoline, a safely fenced carp pond and swimming pool of course. Two boules pitches allow children to use one while Mums and Dads can use the other. Bicycles for all ages and a games room with table tennis, table football, pool and darts are all available. To lighten the travel burden, cots, highchairs and other equipment are available upon request. Videos and DVDs are also available for your entertainment.
The properties consist of "La Grange" (sleeps 12), "L’ Hibou" (sleeps 10) which can also be linked with "Le Noisetier" (sleeps 6) and also "La Vieille Maison" (sleeps 6). Le Noisetier and L'Hibou can have the added advantage of being combined as a 16-bed property via a lockable connecting corridor. La Grange: has 2 double bedrooms, 3 twin and 1 en-suite double with a further 2 bathrooms.
L'Hibou has 2 double bedrooms, 1 double with a single, and a triple room all of which are en-suite. There is also a downstairs shower room.
Le Noisetier has 1 double and 2 twin bedrooms and 2 shower rooms.
La Vieille Maison has 1 double and 2 twin bedrooms and 2 shower rooms.

A beautiful setting with a number of gites / farmhouse all well equipped with all that you could need for a perfect holiday break. We stayed for 1 week end June with our two young kids (2.5yrs and 4 month old). Accommodation was very spacious, clean with direct access onto lawned area / large garden for oldest child to play in. Outdoor swimming pool cleaned daily, with secure gating / fencing to ensure children cannot access without a guardian. Barbeque area in garden to utilise, many bikes, sports equipment and great games room in converted barn also available to use. Small and large towns nearby to access for all amenities, La Rochelle and Île de Ré not too far away either for a great day out. The hosts were particularly friendly and helpful, with a great welcome meal provided on arrival! Overall a fantastic stay, and likely to consider again for a Summer 2013 break. Had the most wonderful holiday at Le Grange in August 2012. We arrived for our 2nd holiday at Le Grange (were there the previous summer also and booked again as soon as we got home we loved it so much!) with our large family - 8 adults and 4 children and had a great time. The best thing about this set of gites is that the children are completely enclosed within great grounds. From each house terrace you can see the whole garden including the sunken trampoline and football field and play area. The pool and pond are both safely behind gates so the adults can relax completely whilst the kids have a great time not being supervised every minute of the day. Pool was fab - a little chilly but once your shoulders were in it was refreshing and clean. The houses are well equipped and very comfortable. Este verano tuve la oportunidad de conocer a Tim&Ellen. Ellos además de ser "encantadores" han conseguido en "Les Hiboux" mantener un equilibrio con el respeto a la naturaleza y la tranquilidad. Es una villa silenciosa,lejos del ruido ambiental de la ciudad y la contaminación. Es un lugar idÃlico para ir con la familia o un grupo de amigos, tanto para relajarse,como para practicar deporte,leer.... Allà mismo tienes piscina, bicicletas de distintas modalidades,cama elastica, ping-pong,voleibol y amplios campos para poder practicar el senderismo. También es interesante las visitas a los pueblos cercanos y los mercadillos.....que siempre es algo interesante y curioso. En cuanto al alojamiento, todo está muy limpio, las habitaciones son espaciosas y está decorado con mucho encanto. Merece la pena ir y comprobar lo que digo por uno mismo. A superb family holiday, the accomodation and welcome were much, much better than expected, the area itself was amazing and we could not run out of things to do! We rented the main house at Les Hiboux which was delightful, picturesque and brilliantly equipped. The other properties were rented by other families with small children which meant the kids had ready-made friends to enjoy the pool, swings, trampoline and other childrens facilities. At the same time everyone understood it was holiday time so we didn't feel intruded in any way and could get on with enjoying our downtime in privacy. Tim and Ellen were wonderful and managed to find the perfect balance of being on hand when needed but also gave us the space to feel private. They were also great with the kids and full of useful advice on the local area. Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for a family holiday with young kids. La Noisetier Gite - We chose this gites as it is one of a five and we hoped there would be other children for our six year old to play with - this worked out very well. There are enough shared areas for the children to mix (and the adults if they like) but plenty of privacy. The pool and garden are lovely and perfect for children. The Noisetier is perfect for a small to medium family and was equipped with everything you might need. Our hosts were very helpful and on hand when needed, which wasn't much at all. The area is very pretty though very quiet. The region is not at all tourist focused so day trips require a bit of a drive. It is rural, peaceful and beautiful. Rating 4 out of 5, Julie, Aug 2011
We had a wonderful family holiday at Les Hiboux this summer. The accomodation was a very high standard and the lovely grounds perfect for all the children to play in and us to relax in! It was a bonus meeting other families and the children made lots of new friends. Tim was very helpful with advice on places to visit and some cycle trails. Would definitely visit again. Thank You! La Grange: Great location - a beautiful setting in the quiet French countryside. The gites are comfortable and the facilities for children are fantastic. These included bikes, a trampoline as well as all the usual racquet games. Our children loved the swimming pool and the space and freedom they had in the grounds. This is a great location for a break with the children. The cottages are nicely decorated whilst retaining the local character. It's nicely out of the way, giving you a real taste of France, but still a short drive away from decent sized supermarkets. There are loads of activities for the kids to do on a solo basis, with their siblings or with any of the other children staying in the other cottages. Along with the swimming pool, you can: ride bicycles; play pool/table tennis/table football/darts/basketball/boules; feed the fish in the pond; or let the children run around the grounds. I was surprised that I was able to relax as much as I did with three children - they always had something to do and someone to play with. We spent a fabulous week at Les Hiboux. The owners have thought of everything to entertain the children, from a swimming pool & trampoline, to bikes and roller-skates (&loads more in-between!) It is the perfect location to share a holiday with family & friends (with 4 adjacent properties) in beautiful surroundings. I don't know who had more fun in the games room (with table-football, ping pong & pool); my husband, or my children. Our days were perfectly finished-off with a glass of wine on our terrace. Lovely! The accomodation was fabulous - very tastefully done. The swimming pool and grounds were superb and there were lots of activities for the children besides the pool.
