Property Summary (IR022)

Special Offer: 14-19 May €200; 12-18 Jun €225; 25-30 Jun €200

A pet friendly self catering farmhouse cottage on its own grounds of 30 acres by the banks of the Owenmore river just 1 km from the village of Gurteen the centre of the traditional Irish music scene in Co Sligo. Our 19th century farmhouse which has been carefully renovated nestles in the quiet tree dotted farmland so peacefully you will find yourself relaxing the moment you arrive. The two bedroom cottage can comfortably sleep 2-5 people + a cot which we can provide.

The nearby village of Gurteen has a thriving traditional Irish music scene from the Michael Coleman heritage centre to the regular sessions in the local pubs. Gurteen is well served with a supermarket, pharmacy, petrol station, hardware store, post office, hotel and public houses which also serve food. Our holiday cottage is an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful and mythical landscape. Close by are the ancient lake dwellings on Lough Gara and the passage tombs at Carrowkeel. The old market towns of Boyle and Ballymote with their Abbey and castle ruin are within 10 miles. This is Yeats country so why not visit Lissadell house, Lake Isle of Innisfree, Benbulben and lots of other places mentioned in his poetry. There are excellent beaches at Rosses point Strandhill and Enniscrone.

The two story farmhouse has oil - fired central heating throughout yet retains the old world charm of a solid fuel stove in the dining room and an open fire in the living room. Enjoy as we do peat fires in the cosy living room with the fuel supplied free to all guests. The accomodation consists of two bedrooms on the first floor, the first with double bed and the second with both a double and single bed. There is a well equipped modern kitchen that leads to our naturally bright dining room which seats six while the old Stanley stove in the back ground can keep the kettle on the boil.

Our cosy living room has a three piece suite and an open fire at its heart with satellite TV and DVD. The shower and toilet are on the ground floor plus there is a utility room in a portion of the old cowbire next to the house. Here we keep the washing machine and dryer so no noisy distraction. To the rear of the house we have stone built outhouses, cow bire and hay shed and the space in between is ideal for our picnic table and barbecue. There is plenty of storage space for bicycles, fishing, surfing gear etc in the sheds. As well as a lawn to the front and side with garden furniture we have numerous prepared paths around the stone walled grounds and outbuildings leading to the river, trees and farmland beyond.

Holiday Reviews from the Owners’ site

Our last night in this lovely perfect place. One final chance to sit beside the turf fire. Ireland has been all we imagined. Being able to call this storybook cottage "home" for our week here made the picture complete. Mark, Polly and Jenah - Michigan U.S.A. December 09

This was a fantastic experience we had staying here! Thank you so much Kieran for making such a wonderful farm cottage come to life. We have stayed at numerous self catering houses/ flats/ cottages around the world and this is by far the most welcoming, relaxing and peaceful! Caroline,Jonathan, William and Imogen - Tuscon, Arizona.

What a great farmhouse and a lovely place to live. The welcoming wine, apple - pie, and fresh flowers make all the difference. Both the dogs loved it here to. It was just like home from home. Will be back soon. Week not long enough. Donald and Lynn - Fife Scotland.

The sheer beauty and peace of this cottage is a welcome and much needed break. It has been the best place we have stayed in so far in our three month trip.Jill ,Neill and Susie Plunkett - Christchurch New Zealand. August 2010.

We have had a brilliant week in the best cottage we have ever stayed in - unanimously agreed! The reality was even better than on the website with no detail forgotten. Thank you once again Kieran for allowing us to hire the perfect cottage for an all too-short week! Liz,Pete and Sam Roache Wirral UK. August 2010.
