Prices from 2,200 euro for a family of four (€1,800 in the cottage) – includes accommodation for a week in a luxurious two bedroomed suite, all meals including childrens meal at 5pm, all drinks (soft beverages, wine and beer), child care on some days, raid the fridge – help yourself to snacks at any time
Families can enjoy a self catering cottage in the grounds of a beautiful Normandy chateau. We have two cottages are set in four acres of parkland with a swimming pool, woodland den area and a huge Camelot style tent filled with toys. During 2011 we hope to be able to offer two hours of child minding on certain days at addtional cost.
The Chateau is near the beautiful cathedral city Coutances. It is well placed to see all of Normandy's top tourist sites, including Mont St Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry and the D-Day beaches, which are all 45 to 85 minutes away. Beautiful deserted beaches are 15 minutes away. There are also great zoos, kiddie theme parks, ruined castles, beautiful chateaux and forests. The ferry ports at Cherbourg and Caen are an hour away.
The main cottage is called Voici and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms (one ensuite) plus a large dining kitchen and lounge. The children's bedroom has antique sleigh beds. There is room for a third bed if required (but it is a bit cosy with three beds). There is also a laundry room.
Right next door is a one bedroomed cottage (Voila) which is great if you want to bring along the grand parents or other friends. The smaller cottage is not rented on its own. It has a large ensuite bedroom plus a small lounge and kitchenette.
The two cottages offer the ultimate in flexibility – they can accommodate two to eight people in style and comfort. The two gites have been created from a row of pretty 18 th century stone cottages. Both Voici and Voila enjoy views of Le Castel and are superbly well fitted and blend old world charm with 21 st century comfort. Original beams and exposed stone work collide harmoniously with innovative touches and styling from today. Being an old cottage, the staircase is steeper than you might be used to but there is a stair gate. Right outside is a picnic and BBQ area plus plenty of parking.
There is a TV (with UK kids channels), DVD & video player and Sky box plus loads of videos for the family to watch. We have high chairs, potties, baby monitor, swings and lots of games for kids inside and outside. If Mum wants a rest from cooking you can often book in for dinner at the main chateau, which is run as a B&B.
Voici costs from 440 euro for a week in low season, 500 a week in mid season and 690 euro for a week in high season. In high season the cottage only rents from Sunday to Sunday. Shorter breaks are sometimes available in low and mid seasons. Prices for Voici and Voila together are: low €690, mid €820, high €1,090

A stunningly decorated yet child-friendly Napoleon III château. A contradiction? Jon Barnsley and Nicholas Hobbs have achieved it with elegant family accommodation and children’s suppers, leaving parents free to enjoy their house-party dinners.
We Did not want to go home! We did not know really what to expect - maybe the children would have to be seen and not heard. This expectation could not have been further from reality. Jon and the staff were very accommodating and kind to the children and to us harassed parents providing DVDs and children's satellite channels and a HUGE garden so that we could get on with being adults again, eating, drinking & reading while the children were safe and happy. It is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay and seems to attract very interesting guests. House party is definitely how it feels and we really would like to return. We loved it. My family and I stayed for three nights in April. We had intended to stay for a couple of nights and drive on, but the whole family loved it so much we extended our stay. The Chateau is simply the most gorgeous chateau-like house to stay in that we saw. Everything from the llama that greets you as you drive in, to Jon's hospitality to the gourmet evening meals he cooks are superb. I can't recommend it enough. Nick - San Francisco, stayed April 2009
I stayed with my husband and our one year old and four year old. We chose the Chateau as we specifically wanted to hire a gite attached to a small Hotel/B&B where we could have Dinner in the Hotel having tucked the children up in bed. It worked like a dream. Jon is incredibly welcoming and helpful. We had dinner at the hotel on two evenings and wished we'd done it every night! The house is really beautiful and the whole experience was elegant and lots of fun. The food was fabulous, it managed to satisfy both my vegetarian needs and my husbands carnivorous desires. We particularly enjoyed the shared dining experience. ( i.e. everyone staying at the hotel sits around the same table to eat, which could be hideous but works brilliantly: a sort of pot luck dinner party with Jon as a very accomplished host/ringmaster.) The gite itself was perfect for us, very chic interior with everything we needed. Child friendly often means wipe clean and ugly but not in this case. Both bedrooms are beautiful and really comfortable. (such a lovely surprise to find two gorgeous huge sleigh beds in the children's room instead of the usual poky bunk beds.) From travel cots and stair gates to thoughtful touches like pretty children's bowls and cups and proper blackout blinds (an absolute must for children's bedrooms!) My husband would say that I am a very fussy control freak (i.e. female) so for me to say that the Chateau was perfect for us is high praise indeed.We very much enjoyed our time and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
